Portage Public Library features over 33,500 square feet of space for materials and public use. The second-largest branch in the system, Portage combines the extensive amenities of a larger library with the cozy feel of a community branch. A two-story atrium anchors the building, which was originally opened in 1980 and dramatically expanded in 1996. Located just one block from City Hall and the Post Office, Portage Public Library is an active community hub, offering 7 study rooms and 3 larger meeting room spaces that accommodate groups of up to 100. An entire floor of Youth Services space and a variety of programs for all ages make Portage a popular family destination.

The library accepts donations of items in good condition year round. Donating is easy! Just bring your items to the library during regular business hours. If we are unable to add your donation to our collection, we will add it to the book sale for others to enjoy.
Sales take place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lower level of the Portage District Library. A Members Only presale takes place from 4 - 5:30 p.m. on Friday prior to the above dates. Attending this sale gives you the first pick of the great books available. It's worth being a member to attend this Members Only presale! If you have not yet received your membership card after renewing membership or joining, you can pick it up at the next Friday presale.
The pop-up book sale located in the lobby is a self-service opportunity to pick up affordable new titles: books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines, puzzles, and much, much more! The items available are regularly cycled with other options -- so check back regularly!
The Green Branch Library offers fun, exciting, and educational programs for customers of all ages, both in the Library and throughout the Green community. Visit us for preschool storytime and school-age and family events at the Library. Visit our NatureConnect space and also look for our youth librarians in your schools' classrooms where they will be making a visit soon. Adults can participate in book discussion groups, including our newest, the Food For Thought Cookbook Club, and attend informative programs on health and wellness, financial education, local history, and much more. While at the library, computers, WiFi, faxing and scanning are available for your use. Books, movies, and music are ready for you to borrow.
The library holds an Annual book sale in July and August. Material offered is either withdrawn from the collection or donated to the library. In addition to books, the sale may include: collectable newspapers, magazines, comic books, sheet music, audio books, DVDs and more!
Many Friends volunteer by helping with the monthly and annual book sales, fundraising, and promoting the library. In addition to membership dues, money raised from the Literary Luncheon and book sales support programming for all ages, and items not covered in the general budget.
Membership is open to all individuals and families who want involvement in the library. Members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and to actively participate in book sales, and other events and projects. The membership year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31. All dues are paid annually.
Library programs always have priority over non-Library programs. For literacy or Library-sponsored programs, the Library may authorize a fee on a cost-recovery basis for materials, supplies, etc., may authorize the sale of books associated with author visits and Library fund raisers, and may limit attendance.
Lakefield Township resident Steve English credits Portage Township EMS with saving his life after a heart attack in August 2018. While volunteering at a Curtis Library book sale, English began feeling unwell and sat down. As his condition worsened, other volunteers called 911, and a Portage Township ambulance was there within minutes.
Brodhead Memorial Public Library purchases materials for loan in a variety of formats including hardcover, paperback, and large print books; DVDs and Blu-ray discs; audiobooks on CD; music on CD; and magazines. In addition, the library offers 9 newspapers for in-library use.
Brodhead Memorial Public Library offers multiple spaces for patron meetings and study needs. The Program Room at the library is designated primarily for library-sponsored programming. However, this space is available for public use when it is not needed for library purposes. The Small Study Room and VFW Room are available for public use during open hours. Reservations for all meeting rooms can be made here.

St. James-Assiniboia Library is located beside the St. James Collegiate, close to Ferry Road at Portage Ave. The library is wheelchair accessible. The adult non-fiction, program and meeting room, and a newspaper/magazine room are on the second floor.

I remember taking multiple boxes of books to a used book store on Portage Ave in Winnipeg. He told me to leave them with him and come back in a few hours. He only took a few books and suggested a brop them off at the Grace Hospital further down Portage Ave. Now I drop books off at Firehall and they are used for Children Hospital book sale in the spring.
